How to Use the ABS System
Using ABS smartly can make a huge difference in your offensive performance. Here’s how to get the most out of it:
The ABS Challenge System is mainly an offline feature for realism in Franchise and Road to the Show. It does not work in Diamond Dynasty or standard online head-to-head, where umpire calls are set to “Perfect” and cannot be challenged.
By mastering ABS, you not only protect your hitting stats but also gain an edge in crucial game moments. Smart challenges can extend at-bats, avoid unfair strikeouts, and ultimately boost your OVR performance.
- Initiate a Challenge: Press Down on the D-Pad immediately after a call you disagree with. Timing is key—wait too long and the opportunity is gone.
- Challenge Limit: Each team starts with two challenges per game.
- Retain or Lose: If your challenge is successful and the call is overturned, you keep the challenge. If not, you lose one.
- Extra Innings: Running out of challenges? You get one additional challenge at the start of each extra inning.
Using ABS smartly can make a huge difference in your offensive performance. Here’s how to get the most out of it:
- Protect High-Leverage Counts: Save your challenges for critical situations—like a strike-three call on a borderline pitch with runners in scoring position. Overturning a strikeout can reset the pressure on the pitcher and keep your at-bat alive.
- Exploit the 2-D Zone: ABS uses a strict rectangular strike zone. Unlike human umpires who may have slightly shifting zones, a strike is called only if any part of the ball touches this precise area. Knowing this helps you pick the right pitches to challenge.
- Discipline Over Ego: In modes like Road to the Show, the strike zone grid may disappear after the pitch. Learn your player’s specific zone—top at 53.5% and bottom at 27% of measured height—and only challenge when you’re confident.
- Monitor Accuracy: Human umpires call roughly 94% of pitches correctly. Use the ABS dashboard to see which pitch types or zones are commonly missed by the AI, and target challenges where they matter most.
