Diablo IV doesn't just feel updated right now. It feels reset. Between the Lord of Hatred expansion and Season of Reckoning, the game has stepped away from its old routine and leaned into something looser, faster, and honestly more fun to chase. You notice it almost straight away when you're sorting d4 gear and testing builds, because the usual endgame habits don't carry over cleanly anymore. More activities matter. More item choices make sense. It's not one of those patches where people pretend a few balance notes changed everything. This one actually did. The whole loop has more momentum, and classes that used to feel boxed in now have room to breathe.
Necromancer finally feels like a commander
The clearest winner might be the Necromancer. If you've always wanted the full army fantasy, it's here now, and it's not subtle. With the right setup, you can march around with a ridiculous wall of skeletons, and the screen gets gloriously messy in the best way. What helps even more is how the summon system has been cleaned up. Mages now cost Essence, which makes sense, while Warriors rise on their own from nearby corpses, so the rhythm of combat feels less awkward. And being able to point your minions at a target sounds small, but it changes everything during tougher fights. The Book of the Dead update is probably the smartest part. You can still sacrifice your main summons for permanent bonuses, but now weaker backup versions can show up and soak hits. That means you're not forced to choose between theme and power quite as hard as before.
Druid builds are no longer trapped
Druid players got a change that's been asked for forever. Skills aren't chained to forms in the same rigid way anymore. That opens the class up a lot. You can stay in human form and throw out earth and storm skills without randomly flipping into a bear or wolf just because the skill said so. If you prefer the opposite, that's there too. You can commit to one form and really lean into the bonuses from gear and legendary effects. It sounds like a technical adjustment, but in practice it makes the class feel far less stubborn. You're not wrestling the identity of the build every few seconds. You're actually playing the version you had in your head.
The endgame has been rebuilt around better rewards
Patch 3.0.1 also took a big swing at the game's systems, and for once those changes aren't buried in menus. Gems matter again because weapon sockets now give multiplicative damage by damage type, so your choices aren't filler anymore. Rubies, Emeralds, Amethysts, and Skulls all push different builds in obvious ways, which makes gearing less sleepy. The Horadric Cube coming back gives the whole update a nice old-school pull, and the new Talisman system adds another layer for the Nahantu region without feeling too clunky. Then there's The Artificer's Tower, which used to be The Tower. With better loot, it's finally worth running as part of your regular grind instead of something you try once and forget.

If this is the direction from here on out, a lot more players are going to stick around, and plenty of them will be planning their next build before they even D4 items buy for the next big push.
