How to Use Starlit Ore Efficiently in PoE 2 - OlIViAWArd55 - 06-08-2026

If you’ve been diving into the endgame of Path of Exile 2, you already know that gearing up can feel like a massive hill to climb. Among all the new materials and currencies we have to juggle, Starlit Ore is easily one of the most valuable—and rarest—items you’ll come across.
Because it is an extremely rare and difficult-to-farm endgame material, wasting it on sub-optimal forging processes will drastically slow down your gear progression. If you want to get the most out of your hard-earned drops, you should exclusively save it for the Verisium Anvil to forge high-end unique items.
Here is a practical breakdown of how to unlock the mechanic correctly, what you should actually spend the ore on, and how to farm it without relying purely on lucky drops.
1. Unlock Rune Forging Correctly
Before you can even think about spending your ore, you need to unlock the advanced rune forging system. It requires a specific quest line, and there is a small pitfall you want to avoid so you don't get stuck.
  • Run the Quest: You need to complete "The Starlit Rite" quest, which you’ll find inside the Lost Catacombs zone.
  • Interact with the Objective: Make sure you interact with the chamber objective at the very end of the zone.
  • Talk to the Pharaoh: This is the step a lot of players accidentally skip. Once you finish inside the chamber, head back outside and talk to Pharaoh to fully finalize the quest line.
If you forget to talk to Pharaoh, the quest can end up bugged or marked as incomplete, which will completely lock you out of using the anvil mechanics. Double-check that it’s fully turned in before you move on.
2. Focus on Target Forging Uniques
It helps to understand exactly what Starlit Ore does because it doesn't work like your standard crafting materials. Unlike Essences or Orbs of Alchemy, which you use to modify normal or magic base items, Starlit Ore functions as a direct currency for the Verisium Anvil to roll entirely new Unique pieces of equipment.
Because of this, you want to be smart about your stash:
  • Do Not Gamble Early: It can be tempting to pull the lever on the anvil as soon as you get a few pieces of ore, but you should hold onto it until your character reaches higher-tier maps and endgame logs.
  • Target Build-Enabling Gear: Only use your ore when you have gathered enough support materials to roll for the specific unique tier your endgame build absolutely requires to function. Randomly rolling for generic items early on is a quick way to empty your bank with nothing to show for it.
3. Coordinate with Efficient Farming
Because random drops for this ore are incredibly scarce, you can't just rely on clearing maps and hoping for the best. You need a reliable loop to replenish your supply so it matches how quickly you intend to spend it.
The most reliable strategy revolves around Expedition content:
  • Check the Item Level: You need to acquire Expedition Logbooks that are Level 79 or higher. Lower-level logs won't get you what you need.
  • Hunt Red Runic Monsters: Inside those high-level logbooks, target and kill the Red Runic Monsters. This is your trigger to spawn the boss, Olroth.
  • Defeat Olroth: Beating Olroth guarantees a drop of the Rev variant of Starlit Ore.
Right now, target-farming Olroth in level 79+ logbooks is the only reliable, non-random loop available to consistently replenish your supply. Treat your ore as a finite, high-tier resource, keep your quest state updated, and save your forge attempts for the uniques that will actually redefine your build.
